Live Sweetheart Teaser Odds

In certain sportsbooks, a special type of bet called "sweetheart" teaser bets are accepted. Unlike regular teaser bets, where the player is allowed to 'tease' a side by 6-7 points, sweetheart teaser bets allow the player to add either 10 points or 13 points to any side. Does this sound too good to be true? Well, yes and no.
In a traditional sweetheart teaser, a player can choose to either tease 10 or 13 points to any side, the only stipulation being that 3 or 4 teams, respectively, must be included and all must 'pass/win'. In my personal opinion, public favorites (where >60% of the public is on that side) are horrible to tease, whereas their opponent is a great side to sweetheart tease. I have several reasons why this is true. Primarily, these underdogs have been inflated already, thus in teasing them you will increase your chances of winning. Secondly, underdogs in general are a good bet in the NFL. Thirdly, teams in the NFL usually do not like to blow other teams out. In all, sweetheart teasing underdogs in the NFL can be very profitable, if done right.
In general, cases where sweetheart teasers do not work are in NFL favorites and NCAAF sides. NFL teased favorites usually are tempting bets, but are usually bad ones to make. As a rule of thumb, if a teaser looks too easy, it usually will lose. Again, remember that along with parlays, teasers are a books' best friends. Additionally, I do not tease NCAAF, because in college football games, blowouts are plentiful (bad to tease underdogs) and upsets are very likely (bad to tease favorites).
In closing, play sweetheart teasers sparingly. A wise, sharp player once told me, "if you really love two plays, why the need to tease them or parlay them?" If you are sure and confident with your plays, pound them hard individually. In that case, just as long as 1 wins, you secure yourself of a push (minus the vig).

13 point, 4 team sweetheart teasers = -120 (most books)
