Seattle Supersonics vs. Portland Trailblazers
by Kris Lazaro
12/25/07
The third and final game of this Christmas Day will feature the white hot Portland Trailblazers hosting the struggling Seattle Supersonics. Oddsmakers have made the Trailblazers an opening 8.5-point home favorite, though the line has dipped to its current state of Portland –7.5.
The Supersonics have yet to find their identity this season, as they are a measly 8-19 straight up and 13-14 against the number. Away from home they are a pathetic 4-10 on the road and 6-8 against the spread. They are coming off a great win over the respectable Toronto Raptors by the score of 123-115 (the Sonics covered as a 5 point home underdog). The author just does not see the Supersonics being able to compete with the Trailblazers in this game. Portland is simply on a roll and will destroy this still developing squad in Seattle.
After losing game after game, the Portland Trailblazers find themselves on a current 10 game-winning streak (and 9-1 against the number). Portland has found a great offensive spark, as their recent scores prove. What is interesting about this current streak is that these Blazers were a pathetic 1-9 before this 10 game winning streak. Both defense and offense is clicking in this squad, and it will behoove the bettor to know that streaks are meant to be ridden—meaning to ride them until the wheels fall off. Portland is currently 15-12 straight up and 16-11 against the number. At home they are strong, as they are currently 12-3 and 10-5 against the spread.
The author sees a close game in the beginning, but the ineptitude of the Sonics will show in the second half when the Blazers close them out in convincing fashion. Portland should wrap up this game and finish off the sluggish Supersonics and complete a great day of Christmas basketball.
Game prediction: 105-88 Portland.
