Phoenix Suns vs. L.A. Lakersby Kris Lazaro 12/25/07 The second game of the NBA Christmas Special pits the highflying Phoenix Suns against the shockingly good L.A. Lakers in an afternoon matchup in the city of Angeles. Tethered by superstar guard Steve Nash, the Suns hope to avenge an earlier loss to the Lakers, a game in which the Suns were flat out embarrassed on national television by the score of 119-98 (the Lakers covered and won as an 8 point underdog). Oddsmakers have opened this line to Phoenix –2.5 and the total at 220.5—both lines have remained steady. The Phoenix Suns come into this game off an impressive 122-103 victory over the much improved Toronto Raptors last Saturday (the Suns covered the 10 point home favorite role). It has been the author’s experience that whenever the Suns score over 110+ in their last game, they usually repeat the same effort and secure a victory along the process. With deep revenge in their minds, this offensive Suns team should roll once again over the still improving Lakers. The Suns are 19-8 straight up, but a pathetic 12-14-1 against the number. The Lakers have been no slouches themselves. They are coming off a great Eastern road swing, going 3-1 straight up, but a meager 2-2 against the spread. Their recent victory against the New York Knicks should give them enough confidence to battle against a pissed off Suns Squad. The Lakers are 17-10 on the season, while going a respectable 16-11 against the spread. The author foresees a high scoring affair where the Sun’s class outshines the Lakers front 5. The bench will come in but will not be able to catch up to the Sun’s offensive prowess. Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash will surely put on a show for all in the second game of this NBA special triple-header. The author suggest taking the Suns as the favorite and taking the over for the same amount. Game prediction: 125-109 Phoenix. |
