Top 100 NFL Fantasy Players According to Our Statistics ($9.95)Michigan Wolverines Vs Florida Gators1/1/08 Lloyd Carr’s final game as head coach at Michigan will take place this New Year’s Day as his Wolverines take on Urban Meyer’s Florida Gators in the Capital One Bowl, to be held at the Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Oddsmakers have made the Gators an opening 10.5-point favorite, with the line fluctuating between 11 and 10 points. Michigan comes into this game off back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Ohio State. But the author would like to point out that the Wolverines were on an 8-0 straight up run and 6-2 against the spread before their last 2 games. Led by quarterback Chad Henne, the Wolverines offense will have an easy time moving the ball against a Gator defense that is allowing 24.2 points and 348.3 yards to the opposition. The author actually likes the Wolverines in this spot, as the players will be playing for their beloved coach one last time. Double-digit underdogs also do quite well in bowl games held post-Christmas, especially bowl games held on January 1st and onward. The Florida Gators come into this game smoking out. They are winners in 7 of their last 10 games (also going 7-3 against the spread in that time span); most recently, they beat their instate rival the Florida State University Seminoles by the score of 45-12 (and also covering the 14 point home favorite spread). Florida is 9-3 straight up and 8-3 against the spread; away from home they are 3-1 straight up and against the spread. The author would like to point out that Urban Meyer is 4-0 in bowl games. Nonetheless, this is not the National Championship game; The Wolverines actually matchup well with the Gators, and the author sees a close game all the way to the end, with the Gators barely winning the Capital One Bowl game. Game prediction: 45-41 Florida. |
