Top 100 NFL Fantasy Players According to Our Statistics ($9.95)Maryland Terrapins vs. Oregon State Beavers12/28/07 The Maryland Terrapins travel west this year to the Emerald City Bowl as they face the Oregon State Beavers in San Francisco’s AT&T Park (incidentally the baseball stadium where the San Francisco’s Giants play baseball). Oddsmakers have made the Beavers an opening 4.5-point favorite against the Terrapins in what should be an interesting matchup this Friday. On the season, the Terrapins are 6-6 on the season and 4-7 against the number. Away from home, they are 3-3 straight up and 2-4 against the spread. Maryland is coming off an impressive 37-0 victory against the North Carolina State Wolfpack, a game in which they won and covered as a 1.5 point road underdog. Maryland’s strength is in their defense—thus, if this team has any hope of winning this bowl game, they must rely on their ‘D’ to stop the crucial offensive powerhouse in their opponent. The Beavers are 8-4 straight up and 7-4 against the spread this season in a tough Pac-10 conference and, like the Terrapins, are 3-3 on the road, and 3-3 against the number. Oregon State has also been prolific, as they have won 6 of their last 7 games, most recently beating their rival, the Oregon Ducks by the score of 38-31 in the Civil War (they won and covered as 1 point road underdogs in overtime). The author, though, does not buy the Kool-Aid and also believes that the Beavers will get a rude awakening on Friday night as they battle the Terps. The author sees a game dominated by defense, and in what should be a low scoring affair; the Terps will do just enough to upset the Oregon State Beavers. The fourth quarter will determine the momentum and eventual winner. The author predicts that the Maryland Terrapins will win on a game-winning field goal and finally hand the Beavers a loss on their home field. Game prediction: 24-21 Maryland Terrapins. |
