The Smart Money is on Ron Paul for President in 2008

Many of you have never heard of Ron Paul but don't worry ... you will. Ron Paul is a 2008 Republican candidate running to become president. Some pollsters do not even include him in their polls. And those that do, show him non-existent to 3% maximum. The first caucuses and primaries are 7 months away, so how can Paul go from unknown to presidential candidate?

The first thing to realize is that Ron Paul is not an unknown. Unknown candidates usually have trouble winning election because of the lack of familiarity that voters have with them. If the voter does not know a candidate, how can they vote on you. But things have changed with the Internet. He is one of the most famous politicians on the Internet right now.

Once the election season gets closer and more people start flocking to the Internet for information, voters will start to learn about Ron Paul. This will provide a natural boost for Paul that other candidates will not have. In fact, if you avoided watching the mainstream media and the polls, you would feel that Ron Paul was by far the front runner.

The other important thing to note is that Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate to oppose the war. This is critical because it means that the anti-war Republican vote will almost exclusively be on his side. And the pro-war vote would be split among all the other candidates, and there are 9 of them! It would be as if the two greatest basketball players were put on the same team, their individual scoring averages would drop considerably to the point that the third best player would end up outscoring them by nature of the fact that he is the only option of another less successful team.

We are not trying to say Ron Paul is the third best or anything but just trying to show clear distinctions between Ron Paul and the rest of the field that should benefit him. If you imagine a horrible scenario in which 5,000 soldiers were to die in the two months before any of the primaries and caucuses, I think we can all agree that both the Republicans and Democrats would be voting to end this war. Ron Paul represents the Republicans only hope to win the Presidency in that situation.

70% of the American people are against the War. Only 29% of people approve of George Bush as a President and this all would bode well for Ron Paul in the general election. War hawk candidates like John McCain and Rudy Giuliani will have very little chance to win.

With sports prediction, we always make an effort to make plays based on value. It is easy for someone to predict the favorite to win i.e. Giuliani and Clinton but the art of smart handicapping is to make picks on the individuals with the most value. Because if you consistently make plays this way, you will win in the long run. Ron Paul is exactly that, a very smart value play.

Many offshore books are offering wagers on the presidential race. It is illegal to do so in Las Vegas. And the odds on him winning the general election and being sworn in as our next president can be as high as 100:1.
