The New York Giants face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday in day 2 of the NFL Wild Card Weekend extravaganza. Oddsmakers opened the Bucs an opening 3-point home favorite, with the line holding steady. The total has also remained stable from its opening line of 39.5. At the time of writing, there have been no major moves noted, as there has been balanced action on both sides and the total.
The New York Giants have finally broken their streak of chocking in the end of the regular season. They now have an opportunity to extend their season by beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday morning. The Giants are 10-6 straight up and against the spread this season thus far. Away from home, they have been road warriors, going 6-1 straight up and against the spread. They are coming off a very emotional game against the New England Patriots last Saturday night, as this squad tried to prevent the Patriots from achieving a perfect season. Led by quarterback Eli Manning, the Giants had a valiant effort, but in the end, the class and overall talent of the Patriots overshadowed these Giants, and eventually the Patriots ended up winning by the score of 38-35 (though the Giants did cover the monster home underdog spread of 13 points).
Tampa Bay is coming off back to back losses, most recently losing to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday by the score of 31-23 (and not covering the 3-point home underdog spread). To the Bucs’ defense, they really did not need to win these last few games, since they had already clinched their division. Tampa Bay is 9-7 straight up and against the number, while going 6-2 straight up and against the spread at home. The author likes the Bucs in this spot, as the public is disrespecting the better team in this situation. With all the hype surrounding this Giants team, value has been created on the Bucs.
