Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saintsby Kris Lazaro 12/23/07 The Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints hook up this Sunday for a game that pretty much means nothing. Both teams have no shot of making the playoffs; thus, this game will be played more for pride than anything else. Oddsmakers have made the home town Saints an opening field goal favorite, with some books moving the line to –3.5. The Philadelphia Eagles had at one point in the season a chance to make the wild card race interesting, but after falling to New England and stringing together key losses, the Eagles and the city of brotherly love must wait until next year to make the NFL playoffs. Quarterback Donovan McNabb will more than likely start for the Eagles, even though he might not be the best option in the Eagles’ arsenal. The Eagles are 6-8 straight up for the season and 7-7 against the spread. On the road, the Eagles are 4-3 straight up, but a great bet against the spread, as they are 5-2 against the number. The New Orleans Saints come into this contest off a 31-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday as 4-point home favorites. The Saints have won 3 of their last 4 games and have covered the games in which they have won. They are 7-7 straight up and 6-8 against the spread. At home, the Saints are 3-4 straight up and 2-5 against the spread. On average, they score 23.6 points per game and allow on average 22.6 points to the opposition. The author sees a close game at the outset, but as the game progresses, the Saints will start to pull away—eventually blowing out the Eagles. Pride will be everything in this game, and as the home team struggles to find its momentum, the Saints will once again be marching in. Game prediction: 45-30 New Orleans. |
