Oakland Raiders vs. Jacksonville Jaguarsby Kris Lazaro 12/23/07 The Oakland Raiders will try to dethrone the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday as 14-point underdogs, a feat that will be easier said than done. Oddsmakers have made the Jaguars an opening 11-point home favorite, but betting action has pushed this line all the way to its current state at Jaguars –14. The Oakland Raiders have been dreadful this year. They are 4-10 on the season and 6-8 against the spread. On the road, they are 2-5 straight up, but a decent 4-3 against the number. On average, they are scoring 18.2 points, while allowing 22.8 points to the opposition. They are coming off a valiant effort last Sunday, as the Indianapolis Colts defeated them by the score of 21-14 (they failed to win, but covered as 9.5 point home underdogs). The author feels, though, that this team will be annihilated this Sunday. The Jaguars are on a different level this season and will destroy this pathetic Oakland team. The Jaguars are coming off a great 29-22 road win last Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, while also covering the 3 point road underdog role. Behind stud quarterback David Garrard, who is having a great season, the Jaguars are a well-balanced team. They have covered their last 6 six games and have been a great bet this season. The Jags are 10-4 straight up and against the spread, while they are 5-2 straight up at home and 4-3 against the spread at home. With a win this Sunday, the Jaguars will all but lock up the AFC wild card position. The author sees a complete blowout developing. The Raiders are playing an early game (10:00 Pacific) and usually teams in their position do quite poorly—the West Coast team playing at 1:00 Eastern angle. Jacksonville scores first and often in this contest and will be well on their way to the playoffs. Game prediction: 38-7 Jacksonville. |
