New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titansby Kris Lazaro 12/23/07 The Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets hook up on Sunday for yet another game where the result will mean nothing to the playoff race. Oddsmakers made the home team Titans an 8.5-point home favorite, but some shops have moved up to Titans –9 due to betting action. The pathetic New York Jets come into this game with a 3-11 record and a 5-8-1 against the spread mark. They are a pathetic 1-6 straight up and 3-4 against the spread away from Jets stadium. On average they score 17.8 points per game, while allowing 23.9 points per game to the opposition. In their last game, the Jets actually played decent against the all too powerful New England Patriots (although they still lost 20-10 as 20.5 away underdogs). Ever since Vince Young came off the injury list this season, he has not been the same. Tennessee comes into this game off a 26-17 away win as a 3.5-point road favorite. For the season the Titans are 8-6 straight up and a mediocre 7-7 against the spread. At home they are 4-3 straight up and 3-4 against the number. The Titans will all but play for pride for the rest of the season, as any hope of making the postseason is all but gone—even if they win out the rest of the season, and the Jacksonville Jaguars lose throughout, they lost to the Jaguars earlier in the season, thus giving the tiebreaker to the boys from Jacksonville. As such, the Titans will try to end their season on a high note. The pointspread will perhaps be the only thing interesting about this game. The author sees a low scoring game in which the Titans will be controlling the flow of the game throughout. The Jets will make a late game rally and backdoor cover the game. Game prediction: 20-16 Tennessee. |
