New York Giants vs. Buffalo Bills

by Kris Lazaro

12/23/07

The New York football Giants hope to solidify their playoff bid by defeating the home standing Buffalo Bills this Sunday.  Oddsmakers initially made them a 1 point away underdog, but betting action has moved the line all the way to New York –3 at the time of writing.

The Giants also hope to bounce back from a disappointing loss last Sunday, where they were smoked by divisional rival Washington Redskins (by the score of 22-10, and losing as 6 point home favorites).  Head coach Tom Coughlin needs to rally his troops and will try to prevent history from repeating itself.  Historically, the Giants tend to choke at the end of the season, but if this team hopes to make the playoffs as the NFC wild card team, they will need this game quite badly.  The Giants are 9-5 on the season and 8-6 against the spread.  Away from home they are 5-1 both straight up and against the spread.

The Buffalo Bills are still a young team, but have been quite a unit this year.  They will certainly be a force in upcoming seasons, as the players learn to play with each other and both units learn from their mistakes.  The Bills are coming off a disappointing loss to the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, by the score of 8-0 and losing the 4 point cover.  The Bills are 7-7 for the year, but 8-5-1 against the number.  The home team bills are an impressive team to bet on this season, as they are 6-1 against the number, but only 4-3 straight up.

The author sees a tight game developing.  The Giants will be super motivated for this game, but will be hampered by a tenacious Buffalo team.  The Bills’ resiliency will come into play as this team will challenge the playoff bound Giants.  Although the side is pretty hard to choose, the author suggests making a play on the total.  Both teams should score pretty easily, as the total has been shaded for the weather.

Game prediction:  20-17 Giants.
