Kansas City Chiefs vs. Detroit Lionsby Kris Lazaro 12/23/07 The Detroit Lions will host the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday at Ford Field—a game that will feature perhaps two of the leagues’ worst teams. The Chiefs enter this game off a 7 game losing streak, while the Lions are almost equally worse, as they are off a 6 game losing streak. Oddsmakers have made the home town an opening 3 point favorite, with betting action moving the line to 5 points at most sportsbooks. The visiting Kansas City Chiefs have been pathetic this year on the road, going 2-4 straight up, but a respectable 4-2 against the number. They have outscored and outgained in almost all of their games. On average, this offense is scoring 14.0 points per game, while the defense is allowing 21.2 points per game. The loss of running back Larry Johnson has certainly hurt this team, and with the quarterback position in disarray, the author does not see anything in the Chiefs for the rest of the year. The struggling Detroit Lions will once again not have a winning season this year. Even if they win out the rest of the season, the Lions will still not be above the .500 mark. Quarterback Jon Kitna’s promise of a great season this year has all been but forgotten in Detroit. The Lions are now simply hoping to close out the season on a good note. They have been on a swift downward spiral, as they have been losing quite badly, most recently being blown out by the surging San Diego Chargers by the score of 51-14 as 10 point road underdogs. The author sees a close game developing with the Lions winning the game late in the contest. The Chiefs will make costly errors on offense that will give the Lions an opportunity to steal the game late. In what should be a low scoring affair, the Lions should prevail, but not cover the game. Game prediction: 17-14 Detroit. |
