Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Coltsby Kris Lazaro 12/23/07 Another AFC divisional rivalry game will take place this Sunday as the Indianapolis Colts battle the Houston Texans at the RCA dome. Oddsmakers have pegged the home standing Colts as an opening 7.5 point favorite, with betting action moving the line down to 7 points at the time of writing. Houston comes into this game after winning its last 2 games, most recently beating the Denver Broncos by the score of 31-13 (they beat the Broncos on a Thursday game as 2.5 point home underdogs). For the season, the Texans are 7-7 both straight up and against the spread; away from home they are both 2-5 straight up and against the spread. The author feels that this team will have a difficult time defending the Colts’ offense and keeping up with the scoring. Houston will succumb to the Colts’ overall class. The Colts are 12-2 on the season and 8-6 against the spread. Playing at the RCA dome has been good for the Colts, where they are 5-1 straight up and 4-2 against the spread. Superstar quarterback Payton Manning and company has been rather amazing this year. They boast one of the leagues’ best offenses and also one of the leagues’ best defenses. For the year, the offense has been averaging 28.7 points a game, while the defensive unit is allowing a meager 16.5 points per game. The author believes that this is actually a better team than last year’s Superbowl winning team. The seven point spread should be no problem for a team hungry to avenge its earlier losses to the New England Patriots and the San Diego Chargers. The author sees a game where one team will simply be shutout. The Colt defense is one of the leagues’ best, and with the Texans’ struggles on the road, the author feels that the Texans will be luck to score more than 2 touchdowns in the game. Game prediction: 35-10 Indianapolis. |
