Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bearsby Kris Lazaro 12/23/07 In what should an interesting divisional rivalry game this Sunday, the Green Bay Packers face the Chicago Bears at Soldier field. Both teams have gone in different directions, but the author believes that this game will be closer than what most believe. Oddsmakers have made the Packers an opening 7 point favorite, with some shops moving the line all the way up to 9 points. The Packers have been overwhelming impressive this year—going 12-2 straight up and 11-2-1 against the number. Away from home, the Pack is 6-1 both straight up and against the number. Ageless wonder quarterback Brett Favre has found the fountain of youth as he is arguably playing some of the best ball of his life. He is currently at a 67.07% passing completion rate and a rating of 97.7, while passing for more than 3,900 yards before week 16. The Packers should roll the Bears, but the author has a sneaky suspicion that the home standing Bears have something up their sleeves in defending Favre and his passing attack. The Bears are following the historical trend of teams who under perform after losing the Superbowl in the previous year. Chicago has certainly lost its footing this season and is merely hoping to end the season on a good note. Chicago has already beaten Favre this year, by the score of 27-20 earlier in the season (they beat the Packers as 3 point visiting underdogs). Chicago is now playing for pride and the author believes that the homefield advantage will be huge for the Bears this Sunday. The Bears are 5-9 both straight up and against the spread this season, while going 2-4 straight up and 1-5 against the spread at home. The author sees a close game in this contest with the better team coming out on top in the last few minutes of the game. Game prediction: 17-16 Green Bay. |
