Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals

by Kris Lazaro

12/23/07

The surging Cleveland Browns take on the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday as the Browns hope to make the playoffs as a potential wild card team.  Both Cleveland and Cincinnati are totally different teams this year, with the Browns playing way over their heads while the Bengals are under performing (to say the least).  Oddsmakers made the Browns a 1-point away favorite, but the line has moved to 3.5 points at the time of writing.

The Browns come into this game with a win over the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, winning the contest by the score of 8-0 (they covered as a 4-point home favorite).  The snow did not seem to detour the Browns from its quest to capture the AFC wildcard, as the Browns solidified their footing in the standings.  The Browns are 9-5 for the season and an amazing 11-3 against the spread this season.  Away from the dog pound, the Browns are 3-4 straight up, but an impressive 5-2 against the spread.  Behind stud quarterback Derek Anderson, the Browns have been a very prolific offensive team, averaging 26.3 points per contests.

The Bengals come into this contest off a disappointing loss against the lowly San Francisco 49ers last Sunday, losing the contest as 8.5-point road favorites by the score of 20-13.  Quarterback Carson Palmer and his squad have been a disappointment.  They have played sub par throughout the season and the author believes that this team has called it quits.  They are 5-9 both straight up and against the spread and are 4-3 at home and 3-4 against the spread.

The author predicts a game that will be highlighted by quarterback Derek Anderson’s passes.  Cleveland will come into this game hungrier than Cincinnati and will look to cement their place in this year’s NFL playoffs.  They will outplay and outgain a pathetic Bengals team and will put this game away early in the first half.  A blowout will be in order to the tune of a 4 touchdown lead.

Game prediction:  49-21 Cleveland.
