Tennessee Titans vs. Kansas City Chiefs
by Kris Lazaro
12/16/07
The Kansas City Chiefs host the Tennessee Titans this Sunday in a game where the only thing on the line will be both teams’ pride. The Chiefs and Titans are pretty much out of playoff contention, therefore their remaining games will pretty much be just for the fun of it. Oddsmakers have pegged the visiting Titans an opening 3 point road favorite, although the public money have moved the line to its current line of 4 at the time of writing.
The Tennessee Titans are 7-6 on the season and 6-7 against the spread. They are 3-3 on the road, both straight up and against the spread. Last Sunday, these same Titans suffered perhaps their biggest loss as the San Diego Chargers defeated them by the score of 23-17 in overtime. That loss pretty much drove them out of playoff contention and perhaps demoralized this Vince Young led team. On the topic of Vince Young, the stud quarterback has not been entirely the same since his injury a few weeks back in the season. Young has struggled to find his form and is now facing a potentially losing season in Tennessee.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been historically good bets in the month of December, but this year’s edition of the Chiefs may break this trend. They are 4-9 on the season and 5-7 against the spread. At home (where they are usually dominant) the Chiefs have gone 2-5 straight up and 1-5 against the number. The author points out the Chiefs’ offensive futility this year to the inadequate production of the quarterback and the lack of the running game. With the loss of running back Larry Johnson, the Chiefs have no answer to the ground game.
The author sees a pitiful game where points will come at a premium. The titans get the victory, but do not capture the ATS victory.
Game prediction: 27-23 Tennessee.
