The Indianapolis Colts look to solidify their bid for perhaps the second best record in the league with a win this Sunday in Oakland. Oddsmakers have made the visiting Colts an opening 12.5 point favorite; at the time of writing the line has steadily crept down to its current position of 10.5 points.
The Colts, behind superstar Payton Manning, look to continue their dominance on the road where they are 6-1 straight up, but a meager 4-3 against the number. They are averaging 29.3 points per game while allowing a stingy 16.7 points in those contests. Head Coach Tony Dungy hopes his team’s recent history of barely winning games on the road changes, for such teams who play as such will usually lose games. At 11-2, the Colts hope to end the season on a high note.
On the other side of the field are the Oakland Raiders, a team that has consistently struggled against good teams. They are currently 4-9 straight up and 5-8 against the number. At home they are a bad bet, going 2-4 straight up and 1-5 against the spread. Oakland’s defense is horrendous, where they are allowing on average 22.9 points per game and 342.6 yards per contest. At home, they are a little bit better, allowing 22.2 points per game and 323.3 yards.
The author sees an interesting game developing. The Colts will surely get the victory, but the ATS one will be up for grabs. Ten plus points to an NFL team is too much, even if they are the Oakland Raiders. The Colts open up the game with a big lead, only to have the Raiders counter with a few touchdowns of their own. The last quarter of the game will be tight, in terms of the spread victory, but in the end, the Raiders will capture the spread.
Game prediction: 31-24 Indianapolis.
