kris lazaroDenver Broncos vs Houston Texans

by Kris Lazaro

12/13/07

The Denver Broncos head into Houston to face the home town Texans this Thursday as current 1 point slim road favorites.  The line has shifted many times since opening, where initially the Broncos were 2.5 point favorites, then were moved to 1.5 point underdogs, and then finally as a 1 point road favorite (at the time of writing).  Both teams will be looking to break .500, as both teams are 6-7 for the season.

The Broncos still have a chance to catch the division leading San Diego Chargers if they can beat the Texans this Thursday.  With a win, they will be that much closer to catching the Chargers who currently sit at a respectable 8-5 record.  Quarterback Jay Cutler and company are coming off an impressive 41-7 home win as 7 point favorites over the hapless Kansas City Chiefs.  On the road, though, the Broncos have struggled this season.  They are 2-4 straight up, going 1-5 against the number in those games.  Playing off a short week and traveling will also not help the Broncos cause.

The Texans are also 6-7 for the season, with an equivalent record against the number.  They are 4-2 at home, both straight up and against the spread.  Their last game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was impressive, beating them to the tune of 28-14 as 3 point home underdogs.  They will have their hands full this Thursday, though, as they host the hungry Broncos.

The author recommends a play on Denver in this match up.  Historically, they are 5-0 straight up against Houston, while going 4-1 against the number during those contests.  Even though Denver has struggled on the road this year, this author believes that the Broncos will be ready for this game on Thursday and make the Chargers sweat a little more.

Game prediction:  37-27 Denver.
