The Monday Night game in Minnesota will have interesting ramifications if the Giants lose this Sunday to the Washington Redskins. Minnesota, who currently sits second place in the NFC North division behind the surging Green Bay Packers, hope to continue their winning ways against a pathetic squad in the Chicago Bears.
Now led by back up quarterback Brian Griese, the Chicago Bears go into Minnesota knowing they can ruin the Vikings party. They are currently 5-8 on the season and 4-9 against the spread. Away from Soldier Field, they are 3-4 both straight up and against the number. This year, the Bears have certainly struggled, only scoring on average 19.5 points, while allowing 22.8 points to the opposition. The NFL Superbowl curse for the runner up is certainly taking its toll on the hapless Bears—the idea that the Superbowl loser has a down season in the following year. Surely, the Bears must build upon this year and hope for a better season next year.
The Vikings, though, still have its eye on the prize this season. After struggling earlier in the season, the Vikings have recently been on a rampage. They have won their last 4 games both straight up and against the number, most recently beating the San Francisco 49ers to the tune of 27-7 as 8 point road favorites. They are 7-6 on the season and 7-4-2 against the spread. At home, they are 4-2 both against the number and straight up.
The author sees an entertaining game, where the home team eventually wins out and takes control late in the game. The Vikings running game will be the difference, as star running back Adrian Peterson will have his way against a weak Chicago Bear defense. Peterson will run, run, and run against a defense that is allowing on average 123.6 yards on the ground.
Game prediction: 28-10 Minnesota.
