kris lazaroBaltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins

by Kris Lazaro

12/16/07

In what should be one of the ugliest games of the season, the Baltimore Ravens invade the still winless Miami Dolphins this Sunday.  The oddsmakers have arbitrarily made the Ravens a 4 point road favorite for the contest.

The Ravens have been pitiful this year, going 4-9 straight up and an awful 2-11 against the spread.  They are 1-5 on the road and have yet to cover a game away from home.  What was once their strong suit is now their greatest weakness—defensively they are one of the worst units in the league, allowing 24.2 points per game and 297.3 yards per game.  Offensively, they are horrible, only scoring 17.4 points per game and 12.8 on the road.  This team is bad as bad can be, only slightly better than the winless Miami Dolphins.

In what is turning out to be a historic season, the winless Miami Dolphins look to continue their streak this Sunday.  They are now 0-13 and look to be the first NFL team to go winless.  College teams have looked better and the author is willing to bet his house that the Dolphins chalk up another loss this Sunday.  The Fins are 3-7-3 against the number, 0-5 straight up at home and 0-4-1 against the spread.  As the season winds down, the Fins need to turn things around and actually focus.  They actually are not a bad team, just a misguided one.  The author sees a team in disarray and nothing seems to be working right now for Miami.

The game should be ugly, where both offenses will be struggling to move the ball around.  Costly penalties will move both squads away from great field positions and will ultimately lead to an ‘under’ game.  The total is set at 37 points for the matchup—a total this is fair, but according to this author will still be too high for both offensive units to cover.

Game prediction:  12-9 Baltimore.
