kris lazaroAtlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

by Kris Lazaro

12/16/07

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday as a hefty 13 point home favorite.  The line originally opened up as Tampa was an early 10 point favorite, but with heavy betting, the line has shot up to its current line.  The author sees the justification of such a move, as the Bucs are gunning for the NFC South division title, while the Falcons are already looking for the off season.

The struggling Falcons come into this game after an abysmal Monday Nite game against the New Orleans Saints.  They lost the game as a 4 point home underdog by the score of 34-14.  They are 3-7 in their last 10 games, going 5-5 against the number.  Atlanta is also looking to avenge an earlier loss to Tampa Bay this year at home, losing 31-7 as 3 point home underdogs.  The Falcons are simply playing for pride in these last few games, and the author will not be surprised if the Falcons cover another game this season.

On the flip side, the Buccaneers have everything to play for.  They are trying to put the division away by simply winning its last several games.  They are 8-5 both straight up and against the number this season, and an impressive 5-1 both straight up and against the spread at home.  They face a crumby Atlanta squad on the road, where it has gone 1-5 straight up and 4-2 against the number.  Led by quarterback Jeff Garcia, the Bucs offense is certainly doing its job, averaging 19.6 points per game.

The author is predicting a blowout in epic proportions.  After the Bucs lost its last game to the Houston Texans by the score of 28-14 last Sunday, every game now will be huge for this team.  Head coach John Gruden will have his troops fired up for this divisional game and will surely not let up.  Tampa scores first and often in what should be game over by halftime.

Game prediction:  55-10 Tampa Bay.
