The Arizona Cardinals travel to New Orleans this Sunday hoping to keep their playoff lives alive. Oddsmakers have made the New Orleans Saints an opening 3.5 point home favorite, amidst heavy betting on the home team. Both teams look to break the .500 mark as both squads are 6-7 for the year. Interestingly, the total for this game has shot up 4 points from the opening line. The line was 45 points, but has since then shot up to 49.
Quarterback Kurt Warner hopes to lead and rally his squad into victory this Sunday after an embarrassing loss at Seattle as a 7 point underdog last Sunday (they were crushed 42-21). Arizona has been decent this year, going 8-5 against the number and 4-3 on the road, although they are 2-5 straight up away from home. On average, they score 23.2 points per game, while allowing 24.8 points to their opposition.
The New Orleans Saints behind quarterback Drew Brees and running back Reggie Bush look to continue their playoff push and build some momentum after beating the Atlanta Falcons, 34-14 as 4 point favorites. Although they are 6-7 on the season, they are a negative 5-8 against the number; even worse they are a bad bet at home, going 2-4 straight up and 1-5 against the spread. They are allowing 22.5 points per game, while scoring 23.1 points per game.
The author predicts a tight game in this matchup, and perhaps a classic last minute drive to win the game. Traditionally, West coast teams lose these early morning games, but with the Saints season record and the way they are playing, do not give this game to the Saints just yet. Arizona will do enough on offense to cover this game, even winning it straight up in the closing seconds of the game.
Game prediction: 33-31 Arizona.
