New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles
by Kris Lazaro
12/8/07
The Philadelphia Eagles host the New York Giants this Sunday in a crucial NFC East divisional matchup. Oddsmakers have pegged the Eagles a field goal favorite in this tilt, and the author is left scratching his head. The Giants are 8-4 straight up while the Eagles are a sub-par 5-7 straight up (against the spread, the Giants are 7-5 and the Eagles are 6-6).
The Giants come into this game winners over the Chicago Bears by the score of 21-16. The Giants are a different team this year, with a much improved defense and a more competent quarterback in Eli Manning. New York Giant faithful can take pride in the fact that their team has a great shot of winning their division if they can continue their momentum and especially beat their long time rival in the Eagles this Sunday. The Giants are allowing 21.4 points per game and scoring about 22.8 points per game. They are both 4-1 straight up and against the spread on the road and are actually a better offensive team, averaging 25.4 points per game.
The Eagles are a miserable 2-4 at home and against the spread this season. Behind back up quarterback AJ Feely, head coach Andy Reid hopes to rally his troops after losing back to back games to Seattle and New England. Surprisingly, they are favored by 3 points against their divisional rival, the New York Giants. The author does not understand this line at all: the Eagles do not deserve being favored in this game. The Giants are clearly the better team with the better quarterback and the better team momentum.
The author sees a very good game, with both teams matching each other’s touchdowns. At the half, head coach Tom Coughlin will make the necessary adjustments and once again beat the lowly Giants. The Eagles will run out of offense and eventually succumb to the Giants.
Game prediction: 34-24 New York.
