kris lazaroIndianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens

by Kris Lazaro

12/8/07

The Indianapolis Colts face the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday night in a match up that will surely be followed by the Patriots.  With an Indianapolis loss and a New England win, the Patriots will clinch homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, a feat that is truly remarkable with it being so early in the season.  Oddsmakers have the visiting Colts a 9.5 point road favorite over the offensively anemic Ravens.

The Colts come into this contest of a tough 28-25 win over their division rival, the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Payton Manning and company will look to the air as the Ravens’ pass defense is ranked one of the worse in the league, allowing on average 214.8 yards per game.  The Ravens secondary has been mangled this season, and the author feels that this game will be no different.  Manning will be throwing darts all Sunday evening and will eventually close out this game in the 3rd quarter.

Besides last Monday Night’s game against the Patriots, the Ravens have been a horrible offensive team.  They are averaging 17.2 points per game and have only covered the spread 2 games out of a possible 12.  Quarterback Kyle Boller had an amazing game last Monday, but will soon return to Earth this Sunday night.  Indy’s defense has actually improved from last year and will surely stifle and confuse the inexperienced Boller and force him to throw errant passes.
The author sees a good game in the first half, with the Colts prevailing in the second half.  Baltimore will shut down Indy’s running game, but will be unable to stop Manning from throwing over 10 yards.  Indy’s offensive onslaught will continue through the second half and will give Manning a rest, as they will have a 3 touchdown lead heading into the 4th quarter.  Indy by a landslide.

Game prediction:  35-9 Indianapolis.
