kris lazaroArizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks

by Kris Lazaro

12/8/07

The NFC West divisional race becomes a little more serious this Sunday as the Arizona Cardinals visit the Seattle Seahawks.  Oddsmakers have made the Seahawks a touchdown home favorite and the author is suspicious of this line.  Although the Seahawks are a very good, solid team at home, the young, surging Arizona Cardinals are no slouches either.

The Cardinals are 6-6 on the year and 8-4 against the spread.  Although they are 2-4 on the road, they are 4-2 against the spread.  They are also a surprising 7-3 ATS on grass.  The Cards are led by quarterback Kurt Warner and running back Edgerrin James.  They have a prolific offense, scoring 23.4 points per game and amassing 331.3 yards per game.  This offense, combined with their defense, has helped the Cards stay in every game they played this season.  The author believes that this trend will continue this Sunday.

The Seahawks are currently on a 4 game winning streak, with wins against San Francisco, Chicago, St. Louis, and Philadelphia.  QWEST stadium is one of the loudest stadiums in the league, where quarterbacks struggle to call audibles.  The Seahawks’ latest streak comes on the heels of great offensive efficiency.  They have scored 24, 30, 24, and 28 points in their 4 last contests.  The author believes one of Seattle’s weakness is putting teams away--their point differential against points scored and points allowed is 5.6.

The author predicts that the Cards come into this game fired up.  They need this game to stay competitive in the division.  They will keep the score close and with a few key errors committed by Seattle, the Cards should be able to steal this game away from the Seahawks.  Divisional games have more meaning and this game will have both teams fired up for this contest.

Game prediction:  34-33 Arizona.
