NFL Divisional Playoffs |
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriotsby Kris Lazaro 11/25/07 The cyborg-like New England Patriots host the rejuvenated Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday night at Foxborough as a monstrous 24 point favorite. Unlike college spreads, NFL spreads rarely go past 17 points, but the amazing and almost disrespectful New England Patriots have been beating and punishing their opponents by an average of 26 points this season. New England is a spotless 10-0 on the season and 9-1 ATS (with that rare no cover coming from the hands of Payton Manning and company). New England looks like a team on a mission, but this game on Sunday may catch the Patriots off-guard. They may not prepare as much for this game as the starting quarterback for the Eagles will most likely be out. The Philadelphia Eagles will not suit up quarterback Donovan McNabb, who sustained an ankle injury last Sunday. Instead back up quarterback A.J. Feeley will lead an Eagles bunch who has a 5-5 record for the year, 3-2 on the road, and 5-5 against the number. They have been a mediocre bunch, at best, but if they want to do the unthinkable and defeat the invinsible Patriots, they must play a near perfect game this Sunday, and capitalize on turnovers (if the Patriots commit any). If the Eagles get behind early, this game will be a long one for Eagles fans. The Patriots are a team that do not beat themselves. New England head coach Bill Belichick will use all of his offensive guns to put on a show for the home fans and limit the Eagles’ offense of anything productive. Feeley will surely be confused by the Patriots’ stifling defense, a bunch that has been allowing 15.7 points per game. The author predicts a blowout. New England is having a magical season, and there is no reason why the early bettors are wrong about this game (the line opened up as New England –17 and was quickly bet up to the current line). Game prediction: 56-14 New England. |
