Seattle Seahawks Vs Green Bay Packers

1/12/08

by Kris Lazaro

The Seattle Seahawks take on the ‘destined’ Green Bay Packers this Saturday, in the second round of the NFL playoffs.  Oddsmakers opened the home team Packers as an 8 point favorite, with betting action pushing the line slightly down to its current state of Green Bay –7.5.

The Seahawks are coming off a wacky first round game against the Washington Redskins last Saturday, a game in which 36 points were scored in the fourth quarter.  After the Seahawks led 13-0 after 3 quarters, the Redskins answered with 2 quick touchdowns of their own.  The Seahawks showed grit and determination and eventually responded with a 22-point fourth quarter, finally putting the hammer down and putting to rest the Washington Redskins (the Seahawks won 35-14 and covered the 3 point home favorite spread).  The Seahawks come into this game with some momentum and carry with them a solid offense.  They are 11-6 on the season and 10-7 against the number.  On the road, they are 3-5 straight up and against the number.

Brett Favre is never too old to play football.  In a recent article published just this week, he was pondering to return once again after this magical season.  The Packers won the NFC North this year, as they went 13-3 straight up and 12-3-1 against the number.  At home they are an amazing 7-1 and 6-1-1 against the number.  People sometimes miss the fact that the home teams in round 2 of the playoffs are the better team.  Although the Pack does not have a solid running game, the author feels Favre will do just enough to win this Saturday’s game.

The author predicts a good game, where the Packers pull away in the second half to put the Seahawks away for good.  Brett Favre will once again have a phenomenal game and increase his bid for the Hall of Fame.

Game prediction:  24-17 Green Bay.
