Baltimore Ravens vs. San Diego Chargersby Kris Lazaro 11/25/07 The San Diego Chargers host the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday as a heavy 9 point home favorite at Qualcomm stadium. The line opened up at San Diego –7.5, but has been bet up to the current line. The Ravens are coming off a very emotional loss last Sunday against the upstart Cleveland Browns. With a last second field goal that was initially called no good, officials reversed their call and the Browns were able to take the game into overtime and eventually beat the Ravens with a successful field goal. That loss may paralyze and cripple an already fragile psyche in Baltimore. The Ravens are a below average 4-6 and a miserable 1-9 against the number thus far in the season. They are 1-4 on the road and have only averaged 12.6 points per game away from home. The Ravens will need a lot of support from their defense, a unit that is giving up 21.1 points per game. The San Diego Chargers look to overcome the .500 mark this Sunday by relying on quarterback Philip Rivers and running back LaDainian Tomlinson. Head coach Norv Turner needs to prove himself a capable coach, as he has been known in the past to choke and make bad calls. The Chargers are 5-5 currently, 4-1 at home, and 5-5 against the number thus far in the season. In betting terms, the Chargers have been a good bet this year, going 4-1 ATS at home, while the miserable Ravens are 0-5 ATS away and 1-8 ATS on grass. The author believes that the contest will be close up until the half. The Chargers will slowly start to pull away in the third and put the Ravens away with ‘late in the game’ touchdowns. If the Ravens want to stay in this game, they must score and score often and break a trend of offensive futility on the road. Game prediction: 30-9 San Diego. |
