Top 100 NFL Fantasy Players According to Our Statistics ($9.95)San Diego Chargers Vs New England Patriots1/20/08 by Kris Lazaro The New England Patriots and the San Diego Chargers are one game away from reaching the ultimate prize in the NFL. This Sunday afternoon, both teams will be vying for the right to go to the Superbowl in the AFC Championship game. Oddsmakers have made the home team New England Patriots an opening 14.5-point favorite, with the line holding quite steady at the time of writing. The Chargers have been simply amazing these last few games. They are 8-0 in their last 8 games, while also going 8-0 against the number. Most recently, they upset Payton Manning and company, by beating them by the score of 28-24 and winning the underdog spread of 10.5 points. But, in the author’s opinion, the luck stops in Foxborough. Quarterback Philip Rivers and running back LaDainian Tomlinson will be playing hurt this Sunday, as the Chargers hope to avenge an earlier loss to the Patriots this season. If the Chargers hope to advance, they must do so with their defense. On the season, they are 13-5 both straight up and against the number, while going 5-4 straight up and against the spread on the road. The New England Patriots hope to continue their winning ways this Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. They are 17-0 straight up, but only 10-7 against the number. At home they are 9-0 and 5-4 against the spread. All these numbers will be worthless this Sunday, as the Patriots will do everything in their power to go to the Superbowl. This team will be motivated to win and win big. They will not allow this Cinderella team to waltz into Gillette stadium and upset them. Lastly, it is never wise to bet on a warm-weather team in the playoffs playing in cold weather with a hurt quarterback. The author predicts the Patriots in a complete rout. The Pats score first and never look back. Game prediction: 33-10 New England. |
